Howling North Kennels - Similar Breeds
The Akita
The Akita is also known as the Japanese Akita, Akita Inu, and the Great
Japanese Dog.  These dogs were used to hunt deer and bear and as sled
pullers.  Today, they are used for police, army and guard work.  Many were
brought to the US by military servicemen after WWII.  They are not good with
other dogs or small pets and should always be kept on lead when in public.
They are wonderful family pets who love attention and companionship.
