The Ainu Dog is also known as the Hokkaido Dog, Ainu-Ken, Ochi Dog, and
Ainu-Inu. These dogs were used to hunt large game, especially bear. They
also worked pulling sleds, guarding property, and made excellent watchdogs,
because of their predisposition to being suspicious of strangers. They are
fairly standoffish when visitors come, but they are extremely loyal to their
family. It is recommended to get one of these dogs as a young puppy.
